Meet the Artist

Philip Payne

About the artist

Art, Story, and Community

Growing up in a world of art, Phillip Payne created his first fine art piece at just fifteen. Raised in Arizona—first in Sedona, then on the Navajo Nation—his creative education began long before formal schooling, guided instead by hands-on experience and the artistic legacy of his father, renowned bronze sculptor Ken Payne.

Phillip learned to sculpt in clay before he could walk. By fourteen, he completed a piece strong enough to be displayed—and sold—in his father’s gallery. A year later, he bought his first car with the proceeds. At nineteen, he opened his first gallery.

About the artist

A Foundation in History and Craft

Phillip’s artistic practice is driven by a deep love of learning. Much of his subject matter is inspired by what he reads—history, philosophy, music, and the lives of influential figures such as Beethoven and Ansel Adams. Rather than recreating what has already been seen, Phillip translates what he imagines, forming sculptures that feel both personal and timeless.

He completed his first sculpture at the age of fifteen and quickly sought to understand every aspect of bronze creation. Casting his earliest works himself using the Lost Wax Process, Phillip developed a profound respect for traditional techniques while continuing to evolve toward a more contemporary sculptural style.

The Artist & the Collector

At the heart of Phillip Payne Fine Art is the relationship between artist and collector. Phillip values time spent in conversation—whether helping someone acquire their first piece, guiding a custom commission, or sharing the story behind a sculpture.

He believes art is a shared experience—one that connects people across time, place, and perspective.

“Art is a search for kindred spirits. When you find an artist you admire, you learn from them and are better able to connect with others. That is the real goal in making fine art.”
